Your assignment: Imagine that you are a member of the National Child Labor Committee in 1913. You and your committee are planning a full page ad in tomorrow’s newspaper, The New York Times, in support of a constitutional amendment to regulate child labor. You have just received a poignant photograph from one of your photographers in the field and must now write a paragraph to accompany the photograph and to persuade citizens to support the amendment.
Your voice needs to be heard. You will read several articles, view a video, look at a few pictures and select one, and compose your newspaper ad on this topic.
Steps you will be following: In order to plan and compose your ad, you will do all of the following:
1) Read several articles and watch a video from the Resources for #1 on the topic of child labor in the early 20th century, taking notes* on these sources.
2) Organize your evidence, plan, select a photo, and write your ad.
*Notetaking: You may open a Word Document and take notes, or you may use scratch paper.
